Legacy Story of CR8 (Create) : BLK (Black)

Picture

CR8:BLK was founded in 2016 by filmmakers Rebekah Frimpong and Leah “Keturah” Caesar, both originally from Philadelphia. The project began as a web series highlighting the work of Black and African contemporary artists and the curators championing their voices. After Keturah’s passing from cancer in 2017, Rebekah completed and dedicated the short film Sunset in her honor. In 2018, CR8:BLK was relaunched as a nonprofit in Keturah’s memory, expanding its mission to spotlight Black and African women in contemporary art and film across Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and the broader African Diaspora. From 2017 to 2024, CR8:BLK created platforms and networks for artists to showcase their work, connect, and thrive creatively.
